Projects like the Salerno Maritime Terminal, the Messner Mountain Museum in Plan de Corones, the residential complex for City Life in Milan, as well as other unbuilt projects (like the Nuragic and Contemporary Art Museum in Cagliari) attest to the visionary and adventurous spirit of a professional who was able to revolutionise, like few people in the world, contemporary architectural culture. Here we are at another stage of our walk through Romes contemporary architectures: MAXXI, by Zaha Hadid. “In a subtle way this museum manages to connect and embody several very Roman traits: layering and the contemporaneity of history, a very Italian ability to engage with the neighbourhood inventing a new public space, a square open to urban life”. “Zaha was very tied to Italy and in particular to Rome, the historic city par excellence” says Guccione. A little over a year after Hadid’s sudden death “her” museum dedicates Zaha Hadid and Italy (Zaha Hadid and Italy) to her, an exhibition curated by Margherita Guccione and Woody Yao, which from 23 June to 28 January 2018 explores the connection between our country and one of the most influential and world-renowned architects. ![]()
